Lady Raiders finish 6th at tournament

The Unalaska Lady Raiders turned in a solid outing this past weekend at the Ravn Invitational Basketball Tournament in Bethel. The UHS girls worked their way to a sixth-place finish in the 8-team tournament, which was held in the WarriorDome at Bethel Regional High School.

Unalaska more than held its own against the Galena Hawks in the first round. The Lady Raiders, after falling behind by 14 in the second half, roared to within striking distance in the fourth quarter. Unalaska cut Galena's lead to seven with four minutes to play.

Galena weathered the UHS storm, however. Hailey Wilson lead Unalaska offensively by throwing in a team-high 14 points. Kayla Villager added 10 points?

The Lady Raiders bounced back from their first-round loss in grand fashion on Friday. They earned a berth in the fourth-place game by upending Houston by a 56-35 clip.

Unalaska built an early lead over the Lady Hawks and never looked back. Alexis Magalong lead all scorers with 20 points, going four-for-five from three point land.Kiara Villamor added 13 points?

The win over Houston moved Unalaska into the consolation finals to face off with Kotzebue, which defeated Aniak on Friday.

Kotzebue took control of the game early. Kotzebue, which had struggled to maintain an 8-point lead midway through the second, broke the game open in the final two minutes of the half. The Lady Huskies turned a couple of Unalaska turnovers into baskets and took a 12-point cushion into the half.
