ANCHORAGE - Kaia Bebee and Caleb Alsworth helped the Tanalian Lynx add another successful chapter to their volleyball program's history on Saturday afternoon by helping the team finish third at the 2017 ASAA Mix-Six State Volleyball Championships. Tanalian, the 2016 state runner-up, went 3-2 in the tournament, which was held Nov. 30-Dec. 2 at Dimond High School in Anchorage.

With their third-place finish, the Lynx capped their season with a 21-4 record.

Tanalian kicked off the tournament on Thursday with a strong performance in pool play. The Lynx split their two games with Alakanuk and Akiuk in Pool B action, and advanced to Friday's championship bracket to face off against Unalakleet.

Tanalian raced to a quick 2-0 lead over Unalakleet in their first-round matchup. The Lynx won both of the first two games by scores of 27-25. Unalakleet managed to rally back to win Game 3 and Game 4.

Tanalian, coached by Glen Alsworth, regained the momentum in the final frame, posting a 15-10 decision that propelled them into the semifinals to face off against Gustavus, the eventual Mix-Six state runner-up. Gustavus dealt Tanalian its only loss by taking a 3-0 win, 25-21, 25-19, 25-20.

The Lynx rebounded nicely from the loss to Gustavus by rolling to a 3-2 victory over the Shishmaref Northern Lights in the third-place showdown.

Tanalian, keyed by seniors Glen Alsworth III, Alyssa Olsen, Callen Davis, Aeryn Zimmerman and Manuela Usai, put Shishmaref in a quick hole. The Lynx won the first two games of the best-of-five series by scores of 25-18 and 25-20.

Shishmaref rallied to tie the game at 2-2 by netting wins in the next two games.

Tanalian salted away the third-place honors with a 15-12 mark in the fifth frame.
