New dentist in Unalaska takes over for Mushovic
There's a new dentist in the blue house by the creek in Unalaska. After many years of commuting from southern California, James Mushovic is handing over his drill.
'It has been my pleasure to serve our community for the past 34 years as your family dentist," Mushovic wrote, announcing his Nov. 8 retirement with "mixed emotions." He traveled to the Aleutian Islands community several times a year from his home in the San Diego area.
The new dentist is Robert MacArthur IV.
"I enjoy all aspects of dentistry," MacArthur said, promising the "highest quality dental services available in a relaxed and comfortable environment," at the business now called Aleutian Family Dentistry, Inc.
Mushovic said his staff will continue with the new doctor, including the hygienist. Contact numbers and the address remain the same. The business is located in downtown Unalaska, adjacent to Iliuliuk Creek.
MacArthur grew up in Columbia, Tenn., and received a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering and theological studies at St. Louis University. He then served in the U.S. Air Force as a communications officer. Then he went to dental school at the Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health in Mesa, Ariz., completing a dual-degree program, earning a doctor of medical dentistry and a master's of public health.
MacArthur has worked in various private dental practices in Anchorage, as a public health dentist in Bethel and surrounding villages and at several Air Force bases. He said he is now obtaining hospital privileges in the operating rooms of Providence Alaska Medical Center and Alaska Regional Hospital.
