With the arrival of October, many of the teams in Alaska are shifting their athletic focus to wrestling.

Area athletes kicked off their wrestling preparations on Sept. 27 with the first day of practice. Athletes will need to get enough required preseason practices prior to beginning the season next weekend. Barrow High School is scheduled to get its season started on Oct. 14 when they travel to Wasilla to compete in the Wasilla JV Scramble. More than 40 teams from across the state will be attending the meet.

The wrestling season will run through Dec. 9. The 2017 ASAA Alaska Class 1A-2A-3A wrestling tournament will be held Dec. 15 to 16 at the Alaska Airlines Center as well as at Bartlett and Chugiak high schools
