Despite solid performances from Britney Dray, Kylee Sifsof and Emily McArthur, the Dillingham Lady Wolverines went 0-2 over the weekend at the 2017 Class 2A state basketball tournament.

"I think we could have played better but it was a great experience," said McArthur.

The Lady Wolverines suffered a 50-35 setback to Nenana in the first round on Thursday in the Alaska Airlines Center. They were spurred by the win over Dillingham, advanced to the finals on Saturday and finished as the state runner-up.

Dray and Katarina Mowrer both played well in the showdown with the Lynx. Dray poured in a team-high seven points, while Mowrer added six points and five rebounds.

Sifsof added four points and five rebounds.

Frieda Larson also played well for the Lady Wolverines. She tossed in six points.

With the loss to Nenana, the Lady Wolverines fell into a consolation showdown with the Metlakatla Miss Chiefs on Friday. Metlakatla managed to escape with a 52-38 come-from-behind victory.

Dray and Sifsof helped Dillingham get its offense going early. The Lady Wolverines outscored Metlakatla in the first two quarters and held a slim lead at the half. After grabbing a 6-5 lead in the first period, Dray and Sifsof helped Dillingham roll to a 20-14 halftime cushion.

The Miss Chiefs rallied back in the third. Metlakatla posted a 17-12 run in the third and pulled to within 32-31.

They finished off the come-from-behind win with a 21-6 spree in the fourth.

Dray led all DHS scorers with 10 points. Sifsof added eight points and seven rebounds.

McArthur and Mowrer also played well in the contest. McArthur had four points, seven rebounds and five steals. Mower posted four points and eight boards.

Kendra Kapok added five points. Abbey Whitcomb and Theresa Williams tallied three, while Charlene Evalt added one.
