With his team sporting a perfect 9-0 record and having won 27 of their last 28 outings, Unalaska head coach wanted to see how his team would respond from a bigger threat. He got his answer this past weekend. The answers he got were all good.

Unalaska survived a couple of nail-biting wins over the Dimond Lynx junior varsity on Friday and Saturday in front of a large crowd in the UHS gym.

"They (Dimond) are a tough team and are coached well," said Russell. "Both games were great games and great experience. Games like these are great for the team to reflect on and see how the small things make the difference."

"It is through tough competition that a team improves and continues to grow," he added.

Dimond looked primed to deal Unalaska its first loss of the season on Friday. The Lynx built a 3-point lead with just seconds left in regulation before Trevor Wilson breathed life into the Raider offense. He nailed a trey late in the fourth quarter that sent the game into overtime.

Once in OT, Unalaska found its stride and raced to a 52-45 decision.

Wilson finished the game as the Raiders' top offensive threat by scoring 31 points. Carter Price added eight.

On Saturday, Unalaska needed another late flurry to sink Dimond.

Down by three, N.J. Seman drained a long-distance shot to tie the score with 1 minute remaining. After Dimond's Isaiah Meeker had knocked down a jumper to put the Lynx back on top of the team's ensuing possession, Seman delivered again for the Raiders, hitting a three-pointer to staked Unalaska to a 56-55 lead with 15 seconds left.

"We were able to force a desperation shot at the buzzer that missed," Russell said.

Price, Seman and Wilson also finished in double figured for the Raiders. Price chalked up a team-high 15, while Seman and Wilson contributed 10 and 10, respectively.
