Lady Angels split pair with Bethel, Aniak

The Bristol Bay Lady Angels split their weekend series with the Bethel regional High School Lady Warriors and Aniak Halfbreeds this past weekend in Bethel.

The Lady Angels, despite double-digit performances from Anna Hansen and Rylie Lyon, kicked off their weekend with a tough 61-55 loss to Bethel in the BRHS WarriorDome.

Bristol Bay got off to a quick start against Bethel. Sparked by 12 first-quarter points from Hansen, the BBHS girls sprinted to a 21-14 lead.

Lyon added nine of her 18 points in the opening period.

Bethel rallied back in the second. The Lady Warriors pounded out a 17-6 run in the ensuing period and took a slim 31-27 lead into the half.

Bethel continued to push its advantage in the third. Despite five points from Hansen, the Lady Warriors scored a 14-7 run in the frame and rolled into the fourth quarter nursing a 45-34 cushion.

Bristol Bay got its offense going again in the fourth. The Lady Angels picked up 10 points from Hansen and five from both Lyon and Sharon Hansen in the closing eight minutes and pounded out 21 points.

Bristol Bay rallied back to close out the weekend with a rousing 71-37 rout of Aniak.

In the victory, Anna Hansen poured in a game-high 21 points. Sharon Hansen and Lyon contributed 16 and 15, respectively. Jacy Johnson added six.

Bristol Bay, which held a 29-19 lead at the half, did most of its damage in the second half. The Lady Angels outscored Aniak by a 38-18 margin in the final 16 minutes of play.
