Western fisheries open for business

Area M — According to the June 10 ADF&G in-season harvest report, 150,051 salmon had been harvested by commercial fishermen in Area M. Of that number 100,274 were sockeye salmon and 46,687 were chum salmon. The Area M fishery had its first opener last week, and is currently open for its second.

Chignik — According to the June 11 ADF&G in-season harvest report, 76,167 salmon had been harvested in the Chignik management area. 75,714 of those were sockeye. The Chignik harvest area opened to commercial fishing last week.

Bristol Bay — Nushagak District — Commercial setnet fishing opens in the Igushik section tomorrow, Friday, from 10 a.m. to 6 a.m.; on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; on Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; and on Monday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Subsistence fishing in the Igushik section closes Friday at 2 a.m., but is always open during commercial openers.
