Dillingham broadband presentation set for Aug. 25

Residents of Southwest Alaska will get a full-scale update on the information superhighway from GCI on Aug. 25, in presentations at the new Kanakanak microwave tower site in Dillingham.

Ron Duncan, president and chief executive officer of GCI will welcome residents to the site for an update on the TERRA-Southwest project, with presentations to follow from a number of invited federal and state officials, including Senators Mark Begich, D-Alaska and Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska; Chad Padgett, state director for Rep. Don Young, R-Alaska; Sally Smith, board chair, and Robert Clark, chief executive officer of the Bristol Bay Area Health Corp. Gov. Sean Parnell and Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell are also among the invited speakers.

The presentations will be followed by lunch at Kanakanak Hospital, courtesy of GCI.

Following lunch, a limited number of attendees will be able to visit the villages of Levelock and New Stuyahok to see first hand the local TERRA-SW progress, and tour a school and village clinic.

The charter flights will return to Dillingham at 5:30 p.m.
