More citations issued for commercial, sport fishing violations

Alaska State Troopers this past week reported a number of new citations issued for violations in the Bristol Bay commercial salmon fishery. In addition, seven sport fishing violations were listed on the July 9 trooper report. No fishing incidents were reported on July 10.

The information below is taken from the troopers' reports. Any charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. All citations were issued by wildlife troopers and proceedings set for Naknek, unless otherwise noted.

July 9

James Willson, 53, of New Braunsfels, Texas, was cited on July 5 for aiding in the commission of a sport fish guiding violation. Willson, owner/operator of Clearwater Lodge in Igiugig, aided six of his employees in operating power boats while guiding clients on the Kvichak River without valid U.S. Coast Guard licenses as required. Arraignment was set for July 18 in Naknek District Court.

James Hunt, 49, of Makawo, HI, David Souther, 24, of St. Paul MN, Andrew Dumask, 21, of Presque Isle WI, James Chisolm, 37, of Princeton, Texas, Jeremiah Anibas, 22, of Colfax, WI., and Brian Souther, 21, of St. Paul, MN, were each cited with one count of sport fish guiding on the Kvichak River without proper guide documents as required. Each failed to possess valid U.S. Coast Guard licenses required to operate boats on waters of Alaska while transporting sport fish guide clients. Bail for each offense is $210.

July 11

Cesare Cromosini, 48, of Gloucester, MA was cited on July 3 for commercial fishing in closed waters south of the Naknek Section aboard the F/V Anthony Boy. Arraignment set for July 13 in Naknek District Court.

Bryan D. Hodgson, 27, of Aleknagik, was cited July 4 for commercial fishing in closed waters outside of the Ugashik district. Arraignment was set for July 22 in Naknek District Court.

David R. Tufte, 24, of Crane Lake, MN was cited on July 4 for employing an unlicensed crewmember on his commercial fishing vessel. Bail was set at $260 in Naknek District Court.

Clarence P. Zeigler, 57, of Freeland, WA was cited on July 5 for commercial fishing without a 2011 crewmembers license in the Ugashik District. Bail is set at $260.00 in Naknek Court.

Christopher W. Cameron, 45, of Astoria, OR was cited on July 7 for commercial fishing in closed waters outside the Naknek District on the Johnson Hill line. Arraignment was set for July 13th in Naknek Court.

Allen J. Mitchell, 22, and Jason E. Mitchell, 30, both of Bellingham, WA were cited on July 7 for commercial fishing in closed waters outside the Naknek District on the Johnson Hill line as dual permit holders. Allen J. Mitchell was also issued a citation for not possessing a photo ID while acting as a CFEC permit holder. Arraignment on all charges is set for July 13th in Naknek District Court.

Kenneth D. Cooper, 28, of Lake Tahoe, CA and Tarin T. White, 28, of Superior, CO were cited on July 7 for commercial fishing during a closed period in the Naknek District as dual permit holders aboard a vessel. Arraignment is set for July 15th in Naknek District Court.

Matthew Luck, 55, and Benjamin Luck, 23, both of Ketchum, Idaho for commercial fishing in closed waters outside of the Ugashik District as dual permit holders aboard the F/V Meg J. Arraignment was set for July 13th in Naknek District Court.

Ernest Demoski, 67, of Wasilla, for commercial fishing in closed waters outside of the Ugashik District aboard the F/V Lady Kona. Arraignment was set for July 14th in Naknek District Court.

Kyle W. McGrath, 24, of Hastings, MN was cited on July 4 for commercial fishing without a crewmembers license in the Ugashik District. Bail was set at $260 in the Naknek Court.

Jay Espeland, 54, of Granite Falls, WA, was cited on July 5 for commercial fishing without a crewmembers license in the Ugashik District. Bail was set at $260 in the Naknek District Court.

Bjorn E. Sullid, 30, of Stanwood, WA was cited on July 9 for commercial fishing in closed waters outside of the Naknek District/Johnson Hill Line. Arraignment was set for July 14 in Naknek District Court.

Stosh Anderson, 64, and Brian Hayes, 28, both of Kodiak, were cited on July 9 for commercial fishing in closed waters outside of the Ugashik District. Arraignment was set for July 14 in Naknek District Court.

Kevin P. Marilles, 58, of Lynden, WA and Paul C. Hughes, 27, of Seattle, WA were cited on July 9 for commercial fishing in closed waters outside of the Naknek District/Johnson Hill Line as dual permit holders aboard a fishing vessel. Arraignment for both was set for July 14 in Naknek District Court.

Benjamin Blakey, 28, of Bainbridge Island, WA and Jerry Pratt, 28, of Truckey, CA were cited on July 9 for commercial fishing in closed waters outside of the Naknek District/Johnson Hill Line as dual permit holders aboard a fishing vessel. Arraignment was set for July 14th in Naknek District Court.

Thomas B. Henshaw, 42, of Sitka, was cited on July 10 for commercial fishing in closed waters outside of the Naknek District/Johnson Hill Line. Arraignment is set for July 14 in Naknek District Court.

Fritz Menish, 36, and Daisy Lewis, 31, both of Juneau, were cited on July 9 for commercial fishing in closed waters outside of the Naknek District/Johnson Hill Line as dual permit holders aboard the fishing vessel Ridin Dirty. Arraignment is set for July 14 in Naknek District Court.

Shane Reynolds, 28, of Gunnison, CO, was cited on July 10 for operating a powerboat on the Kvichak River with expired vessel registration. Bail is set at $60 in the Naknek District Court.

July 12

Maximilian Pozdeev, 20, of Homer AK plead guilty in Dillingham District Court on July 12 to one charge of commercial fishing in closed waters. He was fined $3,000 with $2,000 suspended and placed on probation for a period of two years under conditions of committing no other commercial fishing violations.

Nicholas N. Basargin, 34, of Plamondon AB, and Alexey E. Basargin, 22, of Homer were both cited on June 28 for two commercial fishing during a closed period offenses in the Nushagak Commercial Fishing District. Nicholas Basargin was the skipper and Alexey Basargin was the permit holder on board the F/V Baikal when the violations were committed. On July 12, both defendants failed to appear for their arraignments in Dillingham District Court. The court issued $1000 bench warrants for each of their arrests.

Thomas L. Hoseth, 59, of Dillingham plead guilty in Dillingham District Court on July 12 to one charge of commercial fishing in a closed period. He was fined $3,000 with $1,500 suspended, ordered to forfeit 483 pounds of fish seized during the investigation, and placed on probation for a period of two years under conditions of

committing no other commercial fishing violations.

David B. Zielinski, 47, of Seattle WA pleaded guilty in Dillingham District Court on July 12 to one charge of commercial fishing in closed waters. He was fined $6,000 with $4,000 suspended and placed on probation for a period of two years under conditions of committing no other commercial fishing offenses. Charges against Karl L. Nelson, who was a co-defendant in the case, were dismissed as part of the

resolution.

Geoff L. Wyman, 63, of Dillingham, pleaded guilty in Dillingham District Court on July 12 to one charge of failing to mark his drift gillnet buoy while commercial fishing in the Egegik District. He was fined $500.

Chad E. Tennyson, 22, of Dillingham, pleaded guilty in Dillingham District Court on July 12 to one charge of commercial fishing in closed waters. He was fined $3,000 with $1,500 suspended and placed on probation for a period of two years under conditions of committing no other commercial fishing offenses.

Michael M. Kelley, 49, of Cordova, pleaded guilty in Dillingham District Court on July 12 to one charge of commercial fishing closed waters. He was fined $3,000 with $1,500 suspended, 216 pounds of fish seized during the investigation were forfeited to the State of Alaska, and he was placed on probation for a period of two years under conditions of committing no other commercial fishing violations.

July 13

Paul C. Hughes, 27, of Seattle, and Bjorn E. Sullid, 30, of Stanwood, WA., were cited separately by wildlife troopers on July 9 for commercial fishing in closed waters south of the Naknek/Johnson Hill line. Arraignment for each was set for July 14 in Naknek District Court.

Swane Agli, 40, of King Salmon, was cited on July 10 for commercial fishing during a closed period in the Naknek district. Arraignment was set for July 15 in Naknek District Court.

Darren Rive, 45, of Anacortes, WA, was cited on July 12 for commercial fishing in closed wasters south of the Naknek district/Johnson Hill line. Arraignment was set for July 20 in Naknek District Court.

James A. Williams, 54, of King Salmon, was arrested on July 12 after he was observed operating an ATV on a paved roadway. Troopers said investigation revealed that Williams was operating the ATV under the influence of alcohol and possessed a small amount of marijuana on his person. He was lodged in the Bristol Bay Borough Jail pending arraignment.

David Boone, 55, Homer, and Corey Boone, 28, of Missoula, MT. were cited on July 10 for fishing in closed waters south of the Naknek District/Johnson Hill line aboard a dual permitted boat. Arraignment was set for July 15 in Naknek District Court.

Kevin P. Marilley, 58, of Lynden, WA, was cited on July 9 for commercial fishing in closed waters south of the Naknek District/Johnson Hill line. Arraignment was set for July 14 in Naknek District Court.

Craig S. Patterson, 59, of Eugene OR pleaded guilty in Dillingham District Court on July 13 to the charge of aiding his sport fish guide client in committing a violation. He was fined $500.

Tyler C. Novak, 33, of Boulder, CO., pleaded guilty in Dillingham District Court on July 13 to the charge of aiding his sport fish guide clients in committing a violation. He was fined $500.

July 15

Alaska State Troopers at Dillingham received a report that approximately $50 worth of property was stolen from a fishing lodge on the Kvichak River, near King Salmon. This case is currently under investigation.

July 16

Tommy Gumluckpuk, 42, of New Stuyahok, was arrested by village public safety officer in New Stuyahok after a report was received of a domestic disturbance. Troopers said that investigation revealed that Gumlickpuk physically assaulted a family member by punching him in the face. Gumlickpuk was arrested for DV Assault IV, and booked at the Dillingham Jail.

Thomas Aliotti, 42, of Bellingham, WA, was cited on July 12 for commercial fishing in closed waters July 9 near the Naknek District. Arraignment was set for July 20 in Naknek District Court.

Jeremy Salmon, 19, of Iguigig, was cited July 13 for commercial fishing during a closed period in the Ugashik District at Bristol Bay. Arraignment was set for July 21 in Naknek District Court.

Ben Stammerjohan, 40, of Kingston, WA was cited July 12 for commercial fishing in closed water outside the Naknek District on June 25. Arraignment was set for July 20 in Naknek District Court.

Marc F. Watson, 52, of Naknek was cited by wildlife troopers on July 13

for commercial fishing during a closed period in the Ugashik district of Bristol Bay. Arraignment was set for July 21 in Naknek District Court.

July 17

Clayton Franklin, 39, of Sedro Wooley, WA was cited on July 15 for commercial fish closed water in the Egegik District. Arraignment is scheduled in Naknek District Court on July 21.

Robert King, 51, of Brush Prairie, WA was cited on July 15 for commercial fishing closed water in the Egegik District. Arraignment is scheduled in Naknek District Court on July 21.

Doug McRae, 47, of Moose Pass, was cited on July 15 for failing to register his set net skiff while fishing the Naknek District. Bail was set at $60.

Mark O. Noste, 52, of Oak Harbor, WA was cited on July 15 for commercial fish closed water in the Egegik District. Arraignment was set for July 22 in Naknek District Court.

Glen Johnson, 66, of Bellingham, WA was cited on July 15 for failing to register his drift gill net while fishing the Naknek District. Bail was set at $60.

July 18

David F. Iani, 51, of Kodiak, was cited on July 16 for commercial fish in a closed period of the Naknek commercial fishing section. Arraignment was set for July 20 in Naknek District Court.
