Brandon dominates local NYO competition
April 26th 12:00 pm | Van Williams
Even Brandon was the man during a local Native Youth Olympics competition in Dillingham.
The high school student punched his ticket to the statewide meet in Anchorage by winning three events and placing second in three others.
Brandon won the Alaskan high kick, Indian stick pull and two-foot high kick. He was runner-up in the Eskimo stick pull, kneel jump and one-foot high kick.
The Dillingham star will look to duplicate that success on the big stage at the Dena'ina Center which will host the state NYO meet again.
Martin Gardiner also had a big meet, winning the kneel jump, placing second in the Alaskan high kick and third in the two-foot high kick.
On the girls side, Jorden Lisac, Johnna Bouker and Kristin Smeaton were each double winners.
Lisac won the wrist carry and one-foot high kick.
Bouker claimed the two-foot high kick and toe kick.
And Smeaton prevailed in the seal hop and one-arm reach.
Maggie Kapotak showed nice versatility by winning the kneel jump and placing second in the Alaskan high kick and fourth in the two-foot high kick.
