The Newhalen boys basketball team got double figures from three players and stiffing defense from everybody at just the right time.

Newhalen used a strong second- and third-quarter performance to fuel a 62-45 victory over Nunamiut in the first round of the Class 1A state tournament at Sullivan Arena in Anchorage.

The game featured two teams that placed in the top three last year, with Nunamiut finishing second and Newhalen third.

Now Newhalen is going to the final four.

Tyler Anelon delivered 21 points, 10 rebounds and five assists to highlight the win.

Teammates Jonathan Tretikoff (19) and Jeffrey Clay (13) were also in double digits.

Jack Williams of Nunamiut scored 21 points.

Newhalen outscored Nunamiut 19-7 in the second quarter and 13-7 in the third quarter.
